Your golden birthday occurs when your age matches your birth day number. Someone born on September 9 has a golden birthday at age nine. Enter your full birth date. The calculator shows its year and compares it with your chosen date.

Find your golden birthday

Enter your birth date to find the year your age matches its day of the month.

The day gives the age; the birth year gives the milestone year.

Starts with today's date on your device. Change it to check a past or future milestone.

Choose a birth date, or try the September 9 example.

How to calculate the year

Your birth day number gives your golden age. Add it to your birth year. Use the same month and day.

  • September 9, 2000: age 9 on September 9, 2009.
  • October 2, 2020: age 2 on October 2, 2022.
  • December 31, 2000: age 31 on December 31, 2031.

The month number does not set the age. September is the ninth month, but someone born on September 20 has a golden birthday at 20.

Hallmark's golden-birthday card description uses this same age-matches-day meaning. Each birth date has one matching age from 1 through 31 under this celebration convention. The matching numbers say nothing about birth frequency or personality.

What if you were born on February 29?

Your birth day number is 29, so your golden age is 29. Adding 29 to a leap-year birth year gives a year not divisible by four. That year has no February 29.

For someone born on February 29, 2000, the golden year is 2029. Choose February 28 or March 1 for its anniversary. The calculator labels this adjustment and retains age 29. These celebration choices do not determine legal age.

The U.S. Naval Observatory explains Gregorian leap years, including why 2000 contains February 29 and 2100 does not. The tool uses that calendar for dates from 1600 onward.

Has your golden birthday passed?

The comparison date starts with today's local date on your device. You can change it to see whether the milestone is before, on or after another calendar date. This compares whole dates rather than birth times.

If you enter a birth date after the comparison date, the tool labels the result as a hypothetical future birth date. You can still use it to explore an example.

Golden birthdays and birthday rarity

Everyone has a matching golden age under this convention. That does not mean each day has equally many births.

See your birthday’s historical U.S. rank for a separate answer about frequency. The methodology explains those records, and the leap-day guide distinguishes calendar occurrence counts from births per occurrence.
